VIDEO: Anterior chamber tubes with anti-VEGF, laser therapy ‘very reassuring’
Long-term study results of glaucoma implant tube surgery presented at the virtual American Academy of Ophthalmology annual meeting showed posterior tubes were equally effective at lowering intraocular pressure as anterior counterparts and displayed a low rate of erosion.
“This is very reassuring to those who are placing these implants in patients,” Rishi P. Singh, MD, staff surgeon at Cleveland Clinic Cole Eye Institute, associate professor of ophthalmology at Lerner College of Medicine and Healio/OSN Board Member, said in a video interview.
“What I hope people take away from this discussion is that the retina colleague is needed in the management of these very complicated neovascular glaucoma patients. In cases where there are combined retinal and glaucoma conditions, we might be needed to do a vitrectomy with placement of poster tubes. Combining these surgeries has been quite successful in our hands and lead to a good outcome for the patients.”
