The FDA has granted 510(k) clearance to Norlase’s Lion, a green laser photocoagulator integrated into an indirect ophthalmoscope, according to a press release.

The device, now available in the United States, does not require a fiber optic connection. It is powered by a rechargeable battery and has an advanced wireless interface, with optional voice control of parameters.

“Lion is the culmination of advanced laser technology and thoughtful design based around optimizing the user experience and improving treatment efficiency,” Greg Fava, vice president of medical devices at Norlase, said in the release.
