Eversight receives grant to investigate COVID-19 impact on donated tissue

A grant from the Eye Bank Association of America will allow Eversight to research the effects of COVID-19 on eye tissue donation.
The $7,500 award is intended for investigating the prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 in the eye and how infection impacts the safety of donated eye tissue, a press release said.
Research is planned in Cleveland, Chicago and Ann Arbor, Michigan.
“We anticipate implications for eye banks and patients receiving the gift of sight throughout the world, ensuring the post-pandemic safety and availability of donated tissues for transplants,” Onkar B. Sawant, PhD, Eversight director of research and head of the Eversight Center for Vision and Eye Banking Research in Cleveland, said.
The research team includes Shahzad I. Mian, MD, Michael S. Titus, CEBT, Parag A. Majmudar, MD, and Ashok Kumar, PhD.
