Verana Health has acquired the technology assets and team from PYA Analytics, a large-scale data architecture solutions company, according to a press release.

In addition, the company completed $100 million in financing, led by GV and a host of new and existing investors.

Verana Health aggregates regulatory-grade data sets with the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s IRIS Registry and the American Academy of Neurology’s Axon Registry.

“Verana is assembling the most comprehensive data sets in medicine across multiple disease types with the goal of accelerating medical research for patients with ophthalmic and neurologic conditions,” Miki Kapoor, CEO of Verana Health, said in the release. “The financing and the addition of PYAA enable us to enrich these large clinical databases, creating a longitudinal view of the complete patient journey to inform research and patient care.”

PYAA, founded by scientists and engineers from Oak Ridge National Laboratory, is the largest multiprogram science and technology laboratory in the United States. Its members have linked clinical records with images to improve detection, used satellite images to inform geospatial analysis and participated in the Human Genome Project, the release said.

“PYA Analytics is a data science company that develops state-of-the-art products for data linking and analysis,” Brian Worley, PhD, co-founder and CEO of PYA Analytics, said in the release. “We are thrilled to join Verana to enrich these extraordinary clinical databases and find answers to some of the most pressing challenges in medicine.”
