Hawaiian Eye 2020 offers comprehensive update for ophthalmologists

The annual Hawaiian Eye meeting, now going into its fifth decade, will feature 7 days of comprehensive ophthalmology information and education in Koloa, Hawaii, Jan. 18-24, 2020.
“We’ve evolved to a highly successful format by listening to our participants,” OSN Chief Medical Editor Richard L. Lindstrom, MD, told Healio/OSN.
The program includes cataract, cornea, neuro-ophthalmology, corneal and lens-based refractive surgery, oculoplastics, glaucoma and the business of ophthalmology. In addition, there is a parallel Retina 2020 meeting. Hawaiian Eye is an opportunity to catch up on all that has happened in the past year in the world of ophthalmology.
“There are some exciting product launches we’ll be talking about in depth,” Lindstrom said.
A disruptive innovations symposium has been added for 2020, which will allow ophthalmic companies to deliver information about new technologies and developments on the horizon.
“There are lots of new technologies, techniques and pharmaceuticals to talk about,” Lindstrom said. “Ophthalmologists can really get to know what’s new from manufacturers.”
Alison Levine, team captain of the first American Women’s Everest Expedition, will serve as the meeting’s keynote speaker in a presentation open to all attendees and their families.
Levine, a best-selling author and Wall Street professional, has skied to both the North and South Poles, was the first American to finish a 600-mile trip across west Antarctica and founded the Climb High Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to training jobless Ugandan women to be trekking guides and porters in the mountains of the region.
She will deliver an address focused on creating a cohesive team, taking responsible risks and leading successfully in times of uncertainty.
