Lucio Buratto, MD, presents “okyo.eu,” an open-access online video library collection of ophthalmic videos that is dynamically open to further contributions, selected by a scientific committee.
“The project took shape from an idea of my son Julien when he decided to reorganize the hundreds of videos we have collected over the years. He thought that such a rich collection was too precious to be kept in the family but should become available to the many people who can benefit from it,” Buratto said.
Okyo.eu contains historical and contemporary videos, showing all kinds of ocular surgeries, from cataract to refractive, from glaucoma to vitreoretinal procedures, as well as clinical cases, webinars, congress presentations and live surgery sessions. The current content features, and is provided by, top-tier ophthalmologists from around the world; however, anybody, old or young, can contribute, Buratto said.
“An international scientific board of world-renowned specialists will evaluate and select the content that complies with the standards and the aims of the project, which are to provide peer-reviewed, high-quality information and learning materials available for free to all members of the ophthalmology community. Videos can also be used by website members for non-commercial purposes,” Buratto said.
He has personally contributed to the project with the surgical videos collected over 40 years of the Video Cataratta Refrattiva (VCR) congress and other meetings. Okyo.eu will be the official website where the next VCR meetings will be broadcast. – by Michela Cimberle
