Call for APAO International Fellowship Program applications
Launched in 2014, the APAO International Fellowship Program aims to help young and promising ophthalmologists from member nations improve their clinical skills, surgical experience and research skills, and then take what they learn back to their home countries. Fellowships are conducted at one of 15 approved, internationally renowned training centers located in different countries in the Asia-Pacific region and beyond.
Upon completion of the APAO International Fellowship Program, participants can present their experiences and projects at the APAO Congress, in the APAO Ground Rounds Around the World or in the Asia-Pacific Journal of Ophthalmology. They will also receive complimentary registration to the APAO Congress at which they will receive a certificate of participation.
Candidates for the International Fellowship Program should be from an APAO member nation. They must have completed basic residency training in ophthalmology and be younger than age 40. Additionally, candidates should have at least one original scientific publication in the proposed field of learning in an indexed peer-reviewed journal.
Applications for the APAO International Fellowship Program are now open through June 30. Interested applicants should complete the online application available at http://fellowship.apaophth.org.
35th APAO Congress cum 60th anniversary celebration
The 35th APAO Congress will be held April 22-26, 2020, in Xiamen, China, at Xiamen International Conference and Exhibition Center, in conjunction with the 25th Congress of the Chinese Ophthalmological Society. Prof. Ke Yao, president of COS from 2016 to 2018, will serve as president of the APAO 2020 Congress, and Prof. Dennis Lam of Hong Kong will continue to be chair of the Scientific Program Committee.
Online early bird registration and English abstract submission are now available via the Congress system. The APAO secretariat encourages all delegates to register and pay for the APAO 2020 Congress at their earliest convenience, as discounted registration rates are offered for a limited time only and will not be available after the deadline. Additionally, it is recommended that presenters read the abstract submission guidelines carefully before preparing their submissions.
2020 also marks the diamond jubilee of the APAO. A series of commemorative activities are to be held throughout the year as celebration. Some of them will be happening during the 2020 Congress. Please join the Congress and celebrate the historical moment with the APAO!

13th APVRS Congress in Shanghai
The 13th Asia-Pacific Vitreo-retina Society (APVRS) Congress is scheduled for Nov. 22-24, in Shanghai, China, and will be co-organized by the Chinese Vitreo-retina Society. Currently the world’s largest exhibition complex, the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai) is located in Hongqiao Central Business District and is highly accessible, truly a premier and ideal platform for major national and international events.
Early bird registration in all categories has begun, and the discounted rates will remain in effect through Sept. 22. Online registration can be done at the APVRS Congress system.
Abstract submission for APVRS 2019 is now open through July 22, and authors are strongly encouraged to read the abstract submission guidelines before beginning the submission process.
Additionally, social programs at APVRS 2019 will include the Opening Ceremony, Presidential Dinner and Congress Party. Further details will be published as they are available.
