Alcon has introduced the Active Sentry handpiece and Intrepid Hybrid tip for the Centurion Vision system, according to a press release.

The products are designed to improve safety, consistency and control during cataract surgery. They will be commercially launched in June.

The Active Sentry handpiece has a built-in fluidics pressure sensor to detect pressure in real time, communicating with the Centurion Vision system. As fluctuation occurs in the anterior chamber, the handpiece alerts Active Fluidics technology, prompting adjustments to stabilize the anterior chamber, the release said.

The Intrepid Hybrid tip is an update to the Intrepid Balanced tip, designed to reduce the risk for capsular tears and improve patient safety. The tip is suitable for cataract densities up to 3+, and fluidics performance and configuration are identical to the Intrepid Balanced tip, according to the release.
