AAO advocates for federal changes at Capitol Hill visit

The American Academy of Ophthalmology’s annual visit to Capitol Hill included more than 400 eye physicians and surgeons advocating for a change to federal policies that delay access to quality care, the organization announced in a press release.
Ophthalmologists met with congressional representatives to discuss issues including prior authorization, step therapy, drug shortages and vision research.
“Without patients’ access to medically necessary care, ophthalmologists cannot protect sight to the full extent of our training,” David W. Parke II, MD, AAO CEO, said in the release. “We greatly value the opportunity to establish strong, bipartisan partnerships in Washington, D.C. These can result in practical, cost-effective, innovative health care solutions to ensure that quality eye care reaches the more than 50 million Americans who experience significant eye disease.”
