VIDEO: New drug delivery systems replacing outdated eye drops
WAIKOLOA, Hawaii — At Hawaiian Eye 2019, Cynthia A. Matossian, MD, FACS, discusses her presentation on long-term methods of delivering medication to the eye after cataract surgery, thus bypassing the “prehistoric” eye drop delivery method. Dextenza (dexamethasone ophthalmic insert 0.4 mg, Ocular Therapeutix) is an intracanalicular insert. Dexycu (dexamethasone intraocular suspension, EyePoint Pharamaceuticals) 9% is administered through a single intraocular dose behind the iris. Both deliver medication for up to 30 days.
