WAIKOLOA, Hawaii — Eric D. Donnenfeld, MD, disclosed a new CPT code for precision pulse capsulotomy, for use in conjunction with a primary cataract procedure, which went into effect on January 1, in his talk at Hawaiian Eye 2019.

The new code is 0514T for the intraoperative identification of the visual axis using patient fixation, he said.

“When you do cataract surgery and you do capsulotomy, phaco, I/A, ... all billed under the current cataract disclosures, add code: 0514T Visual Axis Centration billed under a different code, which is for better refractive outcomes by identifying the visual axis,” Donnenfeld said.

“It’s an opportunity for new revenue in practices and a new way that you can achieve better axis identification,” Donnenfeld said. – by Abigail Sutton
