Alcon is introducing multifocal and multifocal toric ultraviolet-absorbing IOLs to the AcrySof portfolio, as well as the AcrySof UV-absorbing monofocal IOL with the UltraSert pre-loaded delivery system, the company announced in a press release.

The new UV-absorbing IOLs include the AcrySof ReSTOR +2.5 multifocal with ActiveFocus design and the AcrySof ReSTOR +2.5 multifocal toric with ActiveFocus design. The company now offers UV-absorbing monofocal, toric, multifocal and pre-loaded monofocal IOL options, the release said.

“While we believe that the proven benefits of blue light filtering AcrySof Natural IOLs make them an excellent first choice, adding UV-absorbing only options exemplifies our efforts to listen to and respond to surgeons and patients” Jim Di Filippo, vice president and general manager, U.S. Surgical, Alcon, said in the release.

The multifocal toric is expected to be available at the end of September, while the other options are already available.
