To mark Dry Eye Awareness Month and highlight the 2017 publication of the Tear Film & Ocular Surface Society’s Dry Eye Workshop II, TFOS and the Alliance for Eye and Vision Research will host a congressional briefing today.
Moderated by David Sullivan, MS, PhD, FARVO, the briefing will include panelists Janine Austin Clayton, MD, OSN Cornea/External Disease Board Member Penny A. Asbell, MD, Leslie O’Dell, OD, FAAO, and Scott Schachter, OD. They will discuss how TFOS DEWS II has affected clinical perspectives of dry eye disease, according to a release from AEVR.
“The treatment of dry eye remains something of an art, not easily lending itself to a rigid, evidence-based algorithm that accommodates all patients with dry eye symptoms or signs,” Sullivan said in a TFOS release. “All eye care providers who treat patients with dry eye must exercise their clinical skills to judge the significance of each of the varied pathogenic processes that may manifest similar subjective complaints and similar signs of ocular surface dysfunction.”
Congressional education about dry eye is important as it affects health care policy, the release said.
The briefing will also include a “test your tears” dry eye screening.
