Wills Eye Hospital receives $5 million gift for vision research

Wills Eye Hospital has received a $5 million gift from philanthropists Vickie and Jack Farber to create the Vickie and Jack Farber Vision Research Center at Wills Eye, the hospital announced in a press release.
The Farbers previously supplied a $2 million grant to expand and build new foundations for research and to recruit vision epidemiologist Leslie Hyman, PhD, to Wills Eye, the release said.
“Wills Eye is a great institution with incredibly talented people who are motivated, forward thinking and committed to advancing scientific knowledge,” Jack Farber said in the release. “If you put those energies together with financial support to accelerate the rate of progress, you truly make a difference in patients’ lives.”
The Farber Vision Research Center will work closely with the Vickie and Jack Farber Institute for Neuroscience at Thomas Jefferson University to better understand and find cures for neurological and eye diseases, according to the release.
“Wills Eye Hospital has always been an international leader in clinical care and the heart of where passionate, dedicated physicians train and teach in the field of ophthalmology,” Wills Eye Ophthalmologist-in-Chief Julia A. Haller, MD, said in the release. “This marks an exciting new chapter at Wills Eye Hospital in our vision research capabilities.”
