The OCTANe 2018 Ophthalmology Technology Summit will be held on Friday, June 29, and will feature key opinion leaders in ophthalmology and a keynote address from Brent Saunders, Allergan chairman, president and CEO.

The meeting, which will be held at Fashion Island Hotel in Newport Beach, California, will feature interviews and discussions with various luminaries in the field. Additionally, with OCTANe’s LaunchPad program and its affiliation with Visionary Ventures, many early-stage ophthalmology companies and investors will be in attendance, OCTANe CEO and President Bill Carpou told Healio.com/OSN.

“The conference will create a platform for all the different constituents inside of ophthalmology to discuss new ideas, innovation and how to expand the market. This will include entrepreneurs, physicians, key strategics and investors. Day one will focus on content while day two is private, invitation only, for industry and KOLs to meet in an advisory capacity. Throughout the conference, we are integrating CEDARS/ASPENS for the first time and Visionary Ventures along with their eight portfolio companies,” he said.

CEDARS/ASPENS partnership

New to the meeting is OCTANe’s partnership with CEDARS/ASPENS, a not-for-profit society of anterior segment surgeon educators.

“The CEDARS/ASPENS collaboration with OCTANe will lead to several key opinion leaders receiving the most current and future technologies from industry to better our surgical and medical outcomes in the ophthalmic field," Mitchell A. Jackson, MD, founding member of the CEDARS told Healio.com/OSN. "This is an exciting time for industry and eye care physicians to make an impact on the present and future state of our field.”

With the addition of CEDARS/ASPENS, OCTANe can accelerate its mission of connecting these entities and continue to generate innovation, according to Carpou.

“We look forward to building upon the collaboration with CEDARS/ASPENS in the years to come,” he said.

Saunders will deliver the keynote address and has been asked to speak about Allergan’s strategy regarding eye care innovation within the company, Carpou said.

“I have personally been impressed by Allergan’s desire to be on the cutting edge of innovation in technologies that apply to their future products. They have shown by their actions and results to be a true leader in innovation spanning biopharma, med-tech and digital technologies,” he said.

“What we have created with OTS is a platform that is not only just a conference with content, but one that pulls together the diverse organizations that make up the ophthalmic industry including physicians, KOLs, industry, investors and entrepreneurs. The addition of CEDARS/ASPENS and Visionary Ventures further demonstrates our strategy of pulling together a broad ecosystem within the ophthalmic community,” Carpou said. – by Robert Linnehan
