Glaucoma Research Foundation awards $720,000 in research grants

Glaucoma Research Foundation is supporting 12 investigators at U.S. universities with $720,000 in research grants, according to a press release.

The organization is funding eight researchers with 1-year Shaffer Grants and four principal investigators in the multiyear “Catalyst for a Cure” consortium.

The $40,000 Schaffer Grants will support research into causes of glaucoma and potential new treatment options. The recipients are Monica M. Jablonski, PhD, Mary J. Kelley, PhD, David Krizaj, PhD, Yvonne Ou, MD, Padmanabhan Pattabiraman, PhD, Giuliano Scarcelli, PhD, Dorota Skowronska-Krawczyk, PhD, and Trent A. Watkins, PhD.

The $100,000 Catalyst for a Cure grants are going to investigators in the consortium who are working toward identifying and testing specific biomarkers for glaucoma using advanced optical imaging technologies. The recipients are Alfredo Dubra, PhD, Jeffrey L. Goldberg, MD, PhD, Andrew Huberman, PhD, and Vivek Srinivasan, PhD.

“Glaucoma Research Foundation invests in essential research to discover exactly how glaucoma causes vision loss and to find ways to both prevent and potentially restore vision,” Thomas M. Brunner, president and CEO of the foundation, said in the release.
