WAILEA, Hawaii, and AMELIA ISLAND, Fla. — The Wyanoke Group, parent company of SLACK Incorporated, publisher of Ocular Surgery News, has acquired Cataract Surgery: Telling It Like It Is, from Robert H. Osher, MD, the meeting’s founder and program director.
Osher announced the agreement from the podium today during the meeting in Amelia Island, Fla. The agreement is effective with the 2019 meeting.
Osher will remain the meeting’s program director. Richard L. Lindstrom, MD, Ocular Surgery News’ Chief Medical Editor, will join the meeting program committee.
Osher created the meeting in 2010 and it has grown in attendance, support and reputation since then. The meeting gets its title from Osher’s penchant for delivering excellent and direct clinical education to attendees on surgical technique and technology, therapeutics and practice management in a no-holds barred manner.
The 2018 installment of the meeting has attracted more than 550 ophthalmologists and 100 exhibitors.
“My career has been devoted to teaching,” Osher said. “To see this meeting grow and develop has been very satisfying, and I look forward to continuing to focus on the educational content. It is a great relief to have SLACK Incorporated, a leader in ophthalmic publishing and educational events, assume ownership and responsibility for organizing the meeting. I am excited once again to become a full-time teacher at this meeting.”
“We have enjoyed working with Bob Osher for decades as a speaker at our meetings, a member of our editorial board, publisher of his autobiography and as a friend,” said Peter Slack, CEO/President of the Wyanoke Group. “We have missed him at our meetings since he started Telling It Like It Is and are thrilled to be reunited with this dedicated teacher.”
“We are pleased to add this innovative meeting to our lineup and look forward to continued growth.”
SLACK Events will be the meeting organizer and provide content services. Association and Meeting Solutions will provide meeting and exhibit management services.
The meeting will remain in Florida but will not overlap with Hawaiian Eye. The 2019 final dates and location of Cataract Surgery: Telling It Like It Is will be announced shortly.
