Carl Zeiss Meditec pulled in 1,189.9 million in revenue for the 2016/2017 fiscal year, an increase of 9.3% over the previous year’s revenues of 1,088.4 million, according to a company press release.

Earnings per share increased from 1.21 to 1.57.

The company’s ophthalmic devices unit led the company’s strategic business units in growth, garnering revenues of 880.5 million, an increase of 11.2% over the previous fiscal year’s revenues of 791.9 million.

“All segments within this [strategic business unit] achieved growth. The development of refractive lasers, in particular, was very dynamic, as in previous years; however, equipment and consumables for cataract surgery as well as the diagnostics product portfolio also made good contributions to revenue growth,” according to the release.

The microsurgery unit increased from 296.5 million to 309.4 million.

Zeiss’ revenues in the Asia/Pacific region were up from 381.7 million to 448.2 million, while the Americas region revenues increased from 354 million to 378.2 million. The Middle East and African region had an increase of 3% to 363.4 million, and the European region’s revenues remained mostly stable, the release said.
