APAO LDP holds mid-year master class
The 2017-2018 Class of the Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology Leadership Development Program met for its mid-year master class in Colombo, Sri Lanka, during the annual meeting of the College of Ophthalmologists of Sri Lanka, or COSL, from Sept. 29 to Oct. 1.
Under the direction of Leadership Development Program (LDP) Standing Committee Chair Dr. Catherine Green of Australia, the LDP aims to provide systematic orientation and professional development skills for future leaders in ophthalmology in the Asia-Pacific region. During the mid-year master class, LDP participants undertake team-building activities and workshops detailing communication skills, ethics, project management, working with an executive team, advocacy, working with industry and organizational skills.

33rd APAO Congress
The 33rd APAO Congress will be held from Feb. 8 to 11, 2018, in conjunction with the 29th Hong Kong Ophthalmological Symposium, at Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Hong Kong. The event is anticipated to bring together more than 5,000 delegates and more than 1,000 top-notch speakers from around the world to explore current knowledge in ophthalmology and visual sciences.

Serving as co-hosts for the APAO 2018 Congress are the Hong Kong Ophthalmological Society led by Dr. Jeffrey Pong and the College of Ophthalmologists of Hong Kong headed by Prof. Jimmy Lai. Other notable officials include Congress President Prof. Clement Tham, Scientific Program Committee Chair Prof. Dennis Lam and Organizing Committee Chair Dr. Carmen Chan.

Advance registration rates for APAO 2018 are now in effect through Dec. 31, after which standard full-price rates will apply. Further discounts remain available for individuals from developing nations and trainees. However, any delegates who wish to receive the special trainee rate should note that this registration category will not be available during on-site registration at the APAO 2018 Congress.
As APAO 2018 approaches, the APAO Secretariat encourages anyone who requires a visa to enter Hong Kong to apply at their earliest convenience to avoid any last-minute delays or complications. The visa application procedure may take up to 4 weeks.

11th APVRS Congress
The 11th Congress of the Asia-Pacific Vitreo-retina Society (APVRS), one of APAO’s subspecialty member societies, will be held from Dec. 8 to 10 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Online registration with standard rates will remain open until the Congress begins, although delegates can also register for the Congress on site at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.
Congress organizers are pleased to announce the recipients of three different types of travel grants for APVRS 2017. A total of five individuals have been selected as the 2017 APVRS Yasuo Tano Travel Grant awardees and will receive US$500 toward their travel expenses to the 11th APVRS Congress. Congratulations to Jing Feng (China), Umesh D. Bhammarkar (India), Vishal Govindhari (India), Nivean Madhivanan (India) and Diva Kant Misra (India).
The Malaysian Society of Ophthalmology (MSO), co-host of APVRS 2017, has generously awarded travel grants to the following five delegates who will attend the Congress and participate in the submitted program: Teck Boon Tew (Chinese Taipei), Shun Kumashiro (Japan), Jee Yao Loke (Malaysia), Sor Earn Tan (Malaysia) and Ronald Yu Tiu (Philippines). Each recipient will be presented with MYR$1,000.
Additionally, MSO will present Keshmahinder Singh Travel Grants of MYR$1,000 each to the following 10 recipients: Pritam Bawankar (India), Mariam H. Doctor (India), Prateek Kakkar (India), Mohd Anash Pathan (India), Meher Tej Ravula (India), Aditya A. Sudhalkar (India), Wen Yee Lee (Malaysia), Fatin Nadia Zamawi (Malaysia), Rajya Laxmi Gurung (Nepal) and Roshija Khanal Rijal (Nepal). These individuals will also participate in the submitted program of the 11th APVRS Congress.
