The University of Minnesota Medical School Alumni Society awarded OSN Chief Medical Editor Richard L. Lindstrom, MD, with the Harold S. Diehl Award for his lifetime of professional achievements in the ophthalmology field.
The award, established in honor of the medical school’s fifth dean, Harold Sheely Diehl, MD, is given to graduates of the medical school who have “made outstanding contributions to the University of Minnesota Medical School, the University as a whole and the community.”
Lindstrom, a 1972 graduate of the medical school, holds more than 40 patents and has developed corneal preservation solutions, IOLs and ophthalmic instruments, according to the university.
He is one of three recipients of this year’s award, which was presented at the Medical School Alumni Awards banquet on Oct. 12.
“It was humbling and a great honor to receive the Harold S. Diehl Award from the University of Minnesota Medical Alumni Association,” Lindstrom told Healio.com/OSN. “This is a special honor as I am a graduate of the University of Minnesota CLA, Medical School, Residency and Fellowship and have served on the faculty for 40 years.”
