Recent advancements in glaucoma include a new European clinical trial and a CPT code for a popular IOP-lowering treatment.

Here are five recent glaucoma-related stories you might have missed:

1. Open-angle glaucoma may be associated with stroke risk

A 10-year retrospective study found an increased stroke risk in those with open-angle glaucoma. Read more.

2. CyPass micro-stent CPT code becomes effective

The CyPass micro-stent, a minimally invasive glaucoma surgical device, now has a Category 3 code. Read more.

3. Long-term data reinforce positive effect of phacoemulsification for glaucoma

A systematic review and meta-analysis confirmed the IOP-lowering effect of phacoemulsification alone in patients with primary open-angle glaucoma and the consequent reduction in the use of medications. Read more.

4. Majority of patients able to measure own IOP in study

A study found 73% of patients were successfully able to use a rebound tonometer to perform self-tonometry and obtain an IOP reading within 5 mm Hg of a clinician. Read more.
