Novartis reports $2 billion quarterly income

Novartis reported a net income of $2 billion in the second quarter of 2017 compared with a net income of $1.8 billion in the second quarter of 2016.

Net sales were reported at $12.2 billion, while operating income was $2.3 billion, according to a company press release.

Alcon net sales for the quarter were $1.5 billion, with surgical sales growing 3% and vision care sales rising by 2%.

There was an operating loss of $19 million for Alcon compared with an income of $7 million in 2016’s second quarter, while core operating income decreased 11% to $211 million.
