The aspheric Precizon Presbyopic IOL received a CE mark and will be commercially launched in October during the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons meeting in Lisbon, Portugal, Ophtec announced in a press release.

The lens was studied in Europe in a prospective, multicenter trial with a 3-month follow-up in presbyopic patients undergoing cataract extraction or clear lens exchange.

“The study outcomes looked very good, and the concept of the lens is very promising in regards to decentration tolerance and pupil independence,” Mike P. Holzer, MD, FEBO, lead investigator of the trial, said in the release.

According to Erik-Jan Worst, president and CEO of Ophtec, this technology is “a changing paradigm with regards to the correction of presbyopia.” Tolerance to misalignment is obtained thanks to the smooth transition zones of the continuous transitional focus (CTF) optical design, reducing photic phenomena and leading to better and faster adaptation. “The CTF optic is also designed to be less dependent on pupil size under all lighting conditions,” the release said.
