FDA approves VisuMax software update for ReLEx SMILE

The FDA has approved a software update for the Zeiss VisuMax femtosecond laser system for the ReLEx SMILE procedure, according to a company press release.

A minimally invasive corneal refractive procedure, ReLEx small incision lenticule extraction is offered in 600 clinics in 62 countries, the release said.

The procedure is indicated to reduce or eliminate myopia between –1 D and –8 D in patients older than 22 years who have cylinder of –0.5 D or less and manifest refraction spherical equivalent of –8.25 D or less.
