Allergan launches See America initiative to fight preventable blindness

Allergan has launched an initiative to increase awareness of diseases that can cause preventable blindness in the United States, according to a company press release.

See America aims to fight preventable blindness with education, as well as to make vision health a priority and improve access to vision care, the release said.

Allergan will partner with Prevent Blindness to provide vision-screening events where patients will receive free one-on-one eye exams, follow-up treatment plans and education regarding blindness-causing diseases.

“Vision loss from diseases such as glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy is affecting and destroying the lives of too many — with cases of preventable blindness increasing at such a frightening rate,” Herm Cukier, senior vice president of eye care at Allergan, said in the release. “We are launching See America to stress the importance of eye health. The time to act is now.”
