Steinert, Talley Rostov awarded Hawaiian Eye Foundation honors

KOLOA, Hawaii — Roger F. Steinert, MD, was awarded the Philip M. Corboy, MD, Memorial Award for Distinguished Service to Ophthalmology from the Hawaiian Eye Foundation.
“This award is presented annually to an ophthalmologist who typifies a career of excellence and service to patients,” Sherri Boston, MBA, COE, said as she announced the award. “This year’s recipient is nothing short of a superman in ophthalmology.”

Boston cited Steinert’s dedication to the profession in his decades-long career and his role at the Gavin Herbert Eye Institute at University of California at Irvine.
Met with a standing ovation as he took the podium, Steinert thanked his wife, the Foundation and his colleagues as he accepted the award.
“I’m just so grateful for everybody here,” he said. “We all do this together and we go forward with the ability to do things that are better for mankind.”
Audrey R. Talley Rostov
Audrey R. Talley Rostov, MD, was also honored by the Foundation with the Biosyntrx Thornton Humanitarian Award.
As she presented the award, Boston credited Talley Rostov for her work with SightLife, a global organization dedicated to eliminating corneal blindness worldwide.
“Eight years ago I traveled to India and was struck by the magnitude of corneal blindness,” Tally Rostov said. “I accept this award not as a fait accompli but as a further call to action.” – by Rebecca Forand
