CHICAGO — Eidon confocal color imaging allows visualization of geographic atrophy “with very impressive contrast,” SriniVas R. Sadda, MD, said at a CenterVue press briefing here.

“Advancements in industry technology have made us rethink the role of color imaging in geographic atrophy,” Sadda said.

The confocal imaging platform has a more natural way of enhancing contrast and reduces artificial lighting irregularities, allowing better visualization and grading of geographic atrophy than can be obtained with standard flash color imaging, according to Sadda. It furthermore reduces the need for a skilled operator and can be used in patients with small pupils, he said.

Repeatability of measurements using the Eidon platform also appeared to be superior to standard flash color imaging, he said.
