CHICAGO — SightLife President and CEO Monty Montoya announced at the Ophthalmology Innovation Summit the launch of SightLife Surgical, a new subsidiary aimed at eliminating corneal blindness worldwide by 2040.

Created with $10 million in Series A financing from the health care investment firm Flying L Partners, SightLife Surgical is a for-profit subsidiary of the nonprofit SightLife.

“We are creating a vehicle that allows us to innovate at the speed of need in the cornea space,” Montoya said. “SightLife and SightLife Surgical share one mission, and that mission is to eliminate corneal blindness by the year 2040 and we’ll do that by maintaining the mission focus and utilizing the opportunities that exist within cornea to drive growth in SightLife Surgical and ultimately benefit the over 10 million cornea blind worldwide.”
