VIDEO: PiXL may be a new refractive option for low myopes
COPENHAGEN — At the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons meeting here, Rajesh K. Rajpal, MD, chief medical officer for Avedro, discussed the potential treatment of photorefractive intrastromal cross-linking, or PiXL, for correcting low myopia.
“Selective cross-linking has a differential effect, depending on which portion of the cornea is treated because of the varying levels of elasticity in the cornea,” Rajpal said.
The treatment is being studied in both epi-on and epi-off techniques at separate centers in Germany and Singapore with visual acuity results up to 1 year, Rajpal said. The epi-on procedure corrected up to 0.8 D and the epi-off up to 1.3 D.
