Launched in 2014, the APAO International Fellowship Program aims to help young and promising ophthalmologists from member nations improve their clinical skills, surgical experience and research skills, and then take what they learn back to their home countries. Fellowships of either 3 or 12 months’ duration are conducted at one of 13 approved, internationally renowned training centers located in different countries in the Asia-Pacific region and around the world. A complete list of training centers is available at http://www.apaophth.org/training-centers/.

Upon completion of the APAO International Fellowship Program, participants can present their findings at the APAO Congress, in the APAO Ground Rounds Around the World or in the Asia-Pacific Journal of Ophthalmology. They will also receive complimentary registration to the APAO Congress, where they will receive a certificate of participation.

Candidates for the International Fellowship Program should be from an APAO member nation. They must have completed basic residency training in ophthalmology and be younger than age 40 years. Additionally, candidates should have at least one original scientific publication in an indexed peer-reviewed journal.

Applications for the APAO International Fellowship Program are now open through Sept. 25. Interested applicants should send their completed application form and fellowship plan, along with other supporting documents, to the APAO Central Secretariat or to their APAO member society. For more information about the program and application details, please visit http://www.apaophth.org/fellowship-program/.
