Novartis reports $12.5 billion in net sales in second quarter

Novartis reported $12.5 billion in net sales in the second quarter compared with $12.7 billion in the same quarter of 2015, according to a press release.

Operating income was reported at $2.1 billion in the second quarter compared with $2.3 billion in the same quarter of 2015. Net income was $1.8 billion compared with $1.9 billion a year ago.

Alcon net sales were reported at $1.5 billion in the second quarter, a 2% decrease from a year ago. Surgical sales declined 1%, with a strong performance in cataract consumables offset by weaker sales of IOLs. Vision care sales were flat.

Alcon operating income was reported at $7 million compared with $54 million in the same quarter of 2015.
