Sirna, Allergan announce multiyear alliance

San Francisco — Sirna Therapeutics Inc. and Allergan Inc. have announced that they have entered into a multiyear alliance, in order to develop Sirna-027.

Sirna-027 is an RNAi-based therapeutic for age-related macular degeneration, currently in phase 1 testing. Another goal of this alliance is to identify and develop other RNAi-based therapeutics, in order to battle gene-targeted ophthalmic diseases.

As part of this alliance, Sirna will receive an initial payment of $5 million and be eligible for up to $245 million in additional research funds and royalties. Allergan will assume responsibility for all future development and commercialization of Sirna-027.

Optos forms an alliance with IDOC

Optos Inc. and IDOC announced that they have formed an alliance, which will offer qualified IDOC optometrists a customized plan to utilize Optos’ Optomap Retinal Exam in their practices.

The Optomap Retinal Exam, created in 1999, aids in the detection and diagnosis of eye conditions, including diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, retinal detachments as well as hypertension and melanoma.

Eyemaginations, M&S Technologies partner

Eyemaginations and M&S Technologies announced that they have formed an exclusive partnership in order to make Eyemaginations patient education and instructional software available for use on the M&S Technologies Smart System 2020 visual acuity and contrast sensitivity systems.

This partnership will allow users to utilize Eyemaginations software directly through M&S Technologies software, bringing this application directly into the exam room.

Topcon and Anka form strategic partnership

PARAMUS, N.J. — Topcon Medical Systems Inc. and Anka Systems Inc. have formed a partnership to integrate their imaging solutions with the goal of developing new and innovative eye care products.

The focus of the partnership will be on improving eye care practitioner’s abilities to capture, store and retrieve digital imaging information.
