Novartis reported $11.6 billion in net sales in the first quarter compared with $11.9 billion in the same quarter of 2015, according to a press release.

Net income was reported at $2 billion in the first quarter compared with $2.3 billion reported in the same quarter of 2015.

Alcon sales were reported at $1.4 billion in the first quarter compared with $1.5 billion a year ago.

Operating income for Alcon was reported at $31 million in the first quarter compared with $141 million in 2015, and core operating income was reported at $243 million compared with $382 million in 2015. The decrease was primarily attributed to declining sales and planned higher spending in marketing and sales.
