Orbis’ Flying Eye Hospital trained eye care professionals for 2 weeks in Lanzhou, China, to promote skills, improve eye health awareness and deliver patient care, according to a press release from Orbis.

In the Gansu providence, there are 15 pediatric ophthalmologists serving a child population of 5.5 million, the release said. There is a growing need to expand and improve care in the area, and Orbis is working on the referral network at 13 county hospitals and the pediatric services at Gansu Rehabilitation Center Hospital.

“Orbis and the Flying Eye Hospital (FEH) are honored to be in Lanzhou, making this our 37th program in China,” David M. Johnson, director of FEH, said in the release. “This program in Lanzhou provides Orbis and our partners a great opportunity to continue to build the capacity and infrastructure of eye care in the region, specifically in the area of pediatric ophthalmology.”

Partnering with the Second Hospital of Lanzhou University, the FEH trained in ophthalmology, nursing, biomedical technology and anesthesia, the release stated.
