Beaver-Visitec launches cannula for femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery

Beaver-Visitec has launched a multifunctional cannula designed to improve surgical efficiency and optimize outcomes during femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery, according to a company press release.

The thin cannula helps to ensure that femtosecond laser incisions can be opened smoothly. It can also be used for injections of ophthalmic viscosurgical devices or other solutions.

“This Visitec FLACS cannula has an outstanding tip design to ensure that opening of femtosecond laser-cut cataract incisions is both efficient and safe. In addition, I have found that my operating time has reduced because fewer instrument hand-offs are required,” Cédric Schweitzer, MD, of CHU Hopitaux de Bordeaux, France, said in the release.

The cannula “eradicates the risk of cross-contamination associated with reusable instruments and eliminates the need for costly and time-consuming sterilization protocols” because it is a single-use device.
