Topcon announced it has acquired 50.1% shares of ifa systems, according to a press release.

Services offered by ifa, located in Germany, include development, marketing and consulting regarding health IT within the eye care industry as well as selling electronic medical record systems that can connect to various types of ophthalmic examination devices.

Topcon plans to integrate its hardware technology with ifa’s information technology, under the name of “Health IT Solutions.” Topcon will supply infrastructure items that will collectively utilize and manage multiple health care resources in one platform, including screening, examination, diagnosis and treatment.

Topcon also announced in the release its first product from the collaboration. IMAGEnet Connect was introduced at Topcon’s corporate headquarters in Tokyo in December. It will be presented to the public at the World Ophthalmology Congress this month and officially launch later this spring.

IMAGEnet Connect is a vendor neutral software solution designed to connect all available Topcon devices and more than 400 other ophthalmic devices with any practice management software and hospital information software used in clinics. The software is ICD-10 compliant.
