WAIKOLOA, Hawaii — Henry Baylis, MD, was the recipient of the 2016 Philip M. Corboy, MD, Memorial Award for Distinguished Service to Ophthalmology here during the Hawaiian Eye Foundation Symposium at Hawaiian Eye.
The award was presented by Jeffrey Rutgard, MD, the 2015 Thornton Humanitarian Award winner for Exceptional Worldwide Ophthalmic Care.

“Dr. Baylis is a prince of a human being and has been dedicated to serving, teaching and supporting his ophthalmology colleagues throughout his career,” Rutgard said.
Due to a recent health challenge, Baylis could not be at the meeting to accept his award. He sent his best regards to everyone in attendance.
“Thank you for this great honor. I have always liked coming to the Hawaiian Eye meeting and have great memories of times I have spent in the audience, as well as lecturing. This meeting has allowed me to form many meaningful relationships with my ophthalmology colleagues,” Baylis said in a note read by Rutgard.
Baylis has been a clinical professor at University of California, Los Angeles department of ophthalmology for 49 years, where he trains medical students and ophthalmology residents.
