The Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology recognizes individuals and organizations that have made substantial contributions to ophthalmology in the Asia-Pacific region and beyond with various APAO named awards, distinguished service awards, outstanding service in prevention of blindness awards and achievement awards. Starting with the last APAO Congress held in conjunction with the World Ophthalmology Congress 2014, the APAO organizes an awardees’ reception in which awardees are recognized in the presence of their friends and relatives. At the 30th APAO Congress, each awardee can invite up to five friends to attend the awardees’ reception in the social program to share their happy moments.

Named award nominations for APAO Congress 2015 are now open. While only APAO council members are eligible to submit nominations, you may contact your national member societies to recommend suitable candidates. Nominations for APAO distinguished service awards and outstanding service in prevention of blindness awards will open in September. Please stay tuned.

Guangzhou, with its cultural heritage and modern splendor.

Guangzhou is China’s third largest city and one of the oldest cities in China with 2,200 years of history. While undergoing rapid economic developments, Guangzhou retains its cultural heritage, offering tourists a blend of old and new China.

If you are adventurous, you can try bungee jumping at White Cloud Mountain. Chimelong Paradise in Panyu has the largest number of white tigers in the world. An evening cruise along the Pearl River is also a must-do. While on the boat, you will see Guangzhou in all its brightly lit glory, as well as typical Chinese river culture as evidenced on the river banks.
