Scientific program of 31st APAO Congress

In addition to the Named Lectures, the scientific program will cover 16 subspecialties in clinical ophthalmology and visual sciences. Here is a sneak peek into the glaucoma program.

Scientific program of 31st APAO Congress

The APAO glaucoma program is composed of 12 symposia of different themes targeting audiences of various levels.

To start, you will not want to miss the sharing of tips and pearls in the management of “Complicated and unusual glaucomas” by experts in this field. For an instant review, you will find everything you need to know about primary angle-closure glaucoma in “PACG – a practical guide.” This year, besides covering the classic themes, we will bring forward some of the latest ideas on new glaucoma medications, from Rho-kinase inhibitors to long-acting drugs to new delivery systems. In the WGA symposium, world-renowned speakers will update you on “What’s new in Glaucoma.” You can also find symposia on hot topics such as “Glaucoma and CNS” as well as “Posterior segment imaging in glaucoma.” To top it off, we will also include new insights such as “Regenerative medicine in the eye” and “Exfoliation syndrome – a complex puzzle.”

In addition to the invited program, the submitted program will consist of instruction courses, free paper sessions, videos, posters and e-posters. Contributors are eligible to earn Achievement Award points with their participation in the scientific program of the APAO annual congress. More information about the Achievement Award scheme is available at http://www.apaophth.org/award_achievement.php.

APAO Leadership Development Program

The APAO Leadership Development Program (LDP) was first launched in 2009 to groom individuals with the potential to become leaders in ophthalmology and provide orientation and skills to allow those individuals to develop and promote ophthalmology around the world.

The 7th APAO LDP Class will run from March 2016 to March 2017. Participants are expected to attend the 2016 and 2017 APAO annual congresses in Taipei and Singapore, along with a 3-day Masterclass in Mongolia in early September 2016.

Potential participants are ideally qualified eye doctors who are proficient in English and younger than age 50. They should be visionary leaders who have the passion and determination to serve ophthalmology and society. They will have to complete a self-initiated project to be presented in the graduation sessions.

Each APAO member society may nominate one individual to become an LDP participant. Individuals who are interested in participating should contact their national ophthalmic or regional subspecialty societies.

The closing date for nominations is Dec. 19. Individuals selected for the 7th LDP Class will be announced by Jan. 5.
