Zeiss builds on range of ophthalmic products
BARCELONA — Carl Zeiss Meditec introduced additions and enhancements to a range of ophthalmic products at the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons meeting.
In particular, Visuconnect 500 software adds networking capability to Zeiss’s line of basic diagnostics devices, Opmi Lumera 300 is a new surgical microscope, and the SL 220 slit lamp features a new user interface and tower design, Ralf Kuschnereit, PhD, head of the Ophthalmic Systems Division, reported at a company press briefing.
In the realm of retina management, Zeiss featured AngioPlex OCT angiography, which is technology that renders three-dimensional images of the retina and choroid without injection of fluorescence. The technology received 510(k) clearance from the FDA this month and, according to the presentation, represents a “new generation of vascular imaging.”
A smaller OCT device, Primus 200, was also showcased as a simple-to-use and easy-to-integrate device designed for smaller eye care practices. The device is not available in the U.S.
For glaucoma management, Zeiss introduced its Glaucoma Suite, which includes HFA3 perimetry for visual fields diagnosis and the Cirrus HD-OCT to image the anterior chamber and provide a wide-field view of the retinal nerve fiber layer. – by Patricia Nale, ELS
