The FDA granted 510(k) clearance to the SP-1P fully automated specular microscope, Topcon Medical Systems announced in a press release.

The microscope features a 10.4-inch rotating touch panel monitor that eliminates the need for a control lever, a wide-angle panoramic photography mode that increases the size of the area being viewed, automatic measurement and analysis of the endothelium with instant results, comprehensive analysis software and a color histogram that is displayed after analysis.

By tapping the center of the patient’s pupil displayed on the monitor, the device automatically centers, focuses and procures an image of the endothelium. Image acquisition takes a few seconds, the release said.
