Abbott has announced the launch of three new cylinder powers for its Tecnis toric IOL after receiving U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval, according to a company press release.

The 4.5 D, 5.25 D, and 6.0 D cylinder powers are indicated to correct astigmatism of 1 D or greater and improve the visual quality in either or both eyes of cataract patients.

"More than one-third of the U.S. population has a significant degree of astigmatism, but only 7% of the IOLs implanted in the U.S. are toric IOLs,” Daniel Chang, MD, said in the release. “Now, with these new Tecnis toric cylinder powers available, doctors can provide improved vision to a greater number of people who have astigmatism and cataracts."
