Abbott reports $5.2 billion in second quarter worldwide sales

Abbott reported worldwide sales of $5.2 billion in the second quarter of 2015, a 10.8% increase on an operational basis and a 2.2% increase on a reported basis compared with the second quarter of 2014, according to a press release.

Diluted earnings per share from continuing operations was $0.52 on an adjusted and GAAP basis in the second quarter, which was above the previous guidance range.

Medical Optic sales increased 0.8% on an operational basis but decreased 8% on a reported basis. The changes in sales growth were attributed to the impact of market dynamics in the cataract and refractive businesses, the release said.
