The Glaucoma Research Foundation has awarded more than $1 million in research grants, according to a press release.

Four principal investigators, Alfredo Dubra, PhD, Jeffery L. Goldberg, MD, PhD, Andrew Huberman, PhD, and Vivek Srinivasan, PhD, are each receiving $250,000 to work together in "Catalyst for a Cure," a multi-year research collaboration, and to seek specific biomarkers for glaucoma.

In addition, eight researchers, Donald L. Budenz, MD, MPH, Paul K. Kaufman, MD, Richard T. Libby, PhD, Paloma Liton, PhD, Lyne Racette, PhD, Matthew Smith, PhD, Shandiz Tehrani, MD, PhD, and Gulgun Tezel, MD, are each receiving $40,000 2015 Shaffer Grants to support research into finding causes of and potential treatments for glaucoma.

"A key to preventing vision loss is to detect the disease at an early stage. With generous donor support, Glaucoma Research Foundation is investing in research seeking better biomarkers to detect, diagnose and treat glaucoma," Thomas M. Brunner, president and CEO of Glaucoma Research Foundation, said in the release.
