ISTANBUL — Questionnaires for patient-reported outcomes of cataract and refractive surgery are now available at the EUREQUO homepage.

Mats Lundström

According to Mats Lundström, MD, this new feature gives surgeons “the opportunity to assess patient satisfaction and gain a lot of additional knowledge.”

All surgeons’ data on preoperative conditions, surgery outcomes and postoperative results can effectively be compared with patients’ self-assessments.

“Even more interestingly, you can find out if and where there is disagreement between what you think is the clinical outcome and the patient’s perception of the same outcome,” Lundström said at the winter meeting of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons.

The European Registry of Quality Outcomes for Cataract and Refractive Surgery was co-funded in 2008 by the European Union and the ESCRS and is today entirely funded by the ESCRS. It now includes data on more than 1.5 million cataract procedures and more than 30,000 refractive procedures.

Lundström informed the audience that the Catquest questionnaire for cataract surgery is currently available with validated translations in English, German, Italian, Dutch and Swedish and will soon be available in Spanish, Danish and Slovakian. For the QIRC refractive surgery questionnaire, validated translations are available in English and Greek, while Italian, Dutch, Swedish, German, Spanish and Slovakian translations are in progress.

“The project is open for more languages as we find interested colleagues in other countries,” Lundström said.

Both questionnaires are available as an optional choice in the online EUREQUO registry platform.

“When you enter your cases, you have to put in patient number, date of surgery and then you can tick if you want to use the patient questionnaire and the language you require,” Lundström said.
