“I can’t imagine a better honor than to try and live up to Philip Corboy and all that he did,” Olson said. Olson in his remarks noted instrumental individuals in his career including Bradley R. Straatsma, MD, JD, and Herbert E. Kaufman, MD.
“In honoring me, you honor all the amazing people who make up the John A. Moran Eye Center. I had the unusual ride to take that from a one person division with two total staff to the present program with 57 faculty and over 500 employees,” he said. “If there is any recipe for success, it is getting people a lot smarter than you are.”
The Hawaiian Eye Foundation also honored Spencer P. Thornton, MD, by creating the Thornton Humanitarian Award for Exceptional Worldwide Ophthalmic Care sponsored by Biosyntrix. Thornton has served the Hawaiian Eye Foundation for 34 years. The award was given to Jeffrey J. Rutgard, MD. –
