On behalf of Ophthalmic Women Leaders, I am pleased to introduce to the ophthalmic community our new executive director, Angela Bedell. In this role, Angela will be responsible for all OWL activities, including strategic planning, financial management of the organization, fundraising, and program development and implementation.
Angela’s background is impressive. A Certified Association Executive, Angela brings 20 years of comprehensive experience in association management to this leadership position. She has worked primarily in health care organizations, including the American Nurses Association, the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine.
Her passion is developing revenue for nonprofit organizations and growing membership beyond expectations, as demonstrated when she helped grow the National Rural Health Association from 5,000 to 20,000 members in 2006 and most recently led the Kansas City Medical Society to 400% membership growth in less than a year. Angela was recently selected as the Distinguished Association Executive by the Kansas City Society of Association Executives. She has been published in national nonprofit magazines and has presented at many national and international conferences.
These accomplishments, along with her enthusiasm and innovative approach, position Angela to lead OWL to its next level of growth and impact. Angela’s experience will be especially valuable in assisting OWL to implement its newly created vision, mission and values.
OWL is a now more than decade-old national organization that was originally founded for women who work in the ophthalmology space. OWL’s vision has expanded to promote and develop diverse leadership to advance ophthalmic innovation and patient care. With this broader reach, OWL is dedicated to providing professional and personal development for its members and creating opportunities to collaborate with other individuals and organizations.
Angela has compiled an impressive track record of leading growth in her association management career. In addition to her professional accomplishments, Angela is a proud mother of a kindergarten daughter and enjoys living in the suburbs of Kansas City with her husband. Angela’s warm, energetic personality and her great smile make it easy to connect with her immediately. I believe that her impressive background and experiences and her dedication to OWL’s vision, mission and values, will provide the catalyst to move Ophthalmic Women Leaders to membership growth, financial sustainability and high levels of impact in the ophthalmic community. Please join me in welcoming Angela to OWL.
