LONDON — Alcon announced the launch of three new products in its line of vitreoretinal surgical instruments at the Euretina Congress, which preceded the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons meeting here.

The product launch includes the Ultravit high-speed vitrectomy probes, 27+ vitrectomy packs with a full range of 27-gauge instrumentation and the Finesse Flex Loop, according to a press release from Alcon.

“With the global introduction of these new products, Alcon continues to provide breakthrough technology designed to help surgeons treat retinal diseases in a very safe and efficacious way to help improve and deliver the best treatment outcomes to patients,” Dina Abulon, global medical affairs, vitreoretinal instrumentation, Alcon, said in the release. “These latest product offerings represent some of the most advanced surgical vitreoretinal instruments available to assist retinal surgeons on the market today.”

The Ultravit high-speed vitrectomy probes offer increased stiffness, optimized flow and surgical versatility.

The 27+ package is designed for complex microincision vitrectomy procedures performed with Alcon’s Constellation Vision System. High-speed cut rates may reduce traction associated with iatrogenic tears and postoperative complications, according to the release.

The Finesse Flex Loop, the lastest entry in Alcon’s Grieshaber instrumentation line, has a proprietary Nitinol Loop designed to enhance accuracy in creating an edge in internal limiting membrane and epiretinal membrane removal. It is available in 23-, 25- and 27-gauge iterations, according to the release.
