Bioptigen to receive $1.72 million in grants to develop OCT technology
Bioptigen announced it will receive a total of $1.72 million in grants from the National Eye Institute for the development of microscope-integrated optical coherence tomography technology.
Under the terms of the grants, Bioptigen will develop a novel intraoperative OCT system that will be integrated directly into the optical train of the microscope, according to a company press release.
“The work advanced under these grants will bring surgeons one step closer to realizing the full value of intraoperative OCT,” Eric Buckland, OD, CEO of Bioptigen, said in the release. “Ultimately, the ability to observe subsurface structures simultaneous with surgical manipulations will provide surgeons with a critical advance in microscopic visualization.”
The design of the Microscope-Integrated SDOCT enables real-time imaging over a 20-mm-wide and 15-mm-deep field of view, offering independent OCT focus and zoom controls for improved flexibility in both posterior and anterior imaging.
The product is not cleared by the FDA to be marketed, sold or distributed in the United States, according to the release.
