LONDON — Carl Zeiss Meditec presented the company’s new aspheric monofocal IOL, the CT Lucia, at the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons Congress here.

The device, featuring a C-loop design, offers four small revisions that can make important changes to cataract and retinal surgery, according to information presented during a press breakfast sponsored by the company.

“We believe the fully preloaded, disposable injector is the way to go,” Jan willem de Cler, of Carl Zeiss Meditec, said during the press breakfast.

The CT Lucia is designed to compensate for a range of aberrations due to different corneal shapes and lens misalignment, according to de Cler.

Another change includes the use of glistening-free, heparin-coated hydrophobic biomaterial, which Zeiss representatives said provides predictable refractive outcomes.

The IOL features a 2-mm injector tip for 2.2-mm incision, enabling a reduced risk for haptics sticking to the optic, according to the presentation. – by Samantha Costa
